This article explains how to manage IP Address settings and view status of IP Addresses in the X4B Dashboard. This includes setting RDNS and (for anycast IPs) GeoIP hints.
Viewing IP Addresses
To view your IP Addresses, log into the X4B Dashboard and navigate to the "IP Addresses" section under the "Action" menu on your service. Here you will see a list of all your allocated IP addresses along with their details such as status, a list of backend communication addresses for communinicaton with your servers is also here.
Setting RDNS
To set the Reverse DNS (RDNS) for an IP address, locate the IP address in the list and edit the RDNS table cell. The value you enter here will be used for reverse DNS lookups for this IP address. Make sure to enter a valid hostname that resolves correctly to your IP address.
Reverse DNS updates may take some time to propagate across the internet, you should typically allow up to 24 hours for changes to take full effect.
Setting GeoIP Hints (for Anycast IPs)
If you have anycast IP addresses, you can set GeoIP hints to help direct traffic based on geographic location. This sets the GeoIP information associated with the IP address (which we provide in a geofeed). This does not affect routing, but can help with services that use GeoIP data for localization or compliance.
For information on geoip see the related article on GeoIP.
Once you make a change here we will immediately update our geofeed with the new information. Note that it may take some time for third-party services to update their GeoIP databases with the new information. In our experience most services update their databases within 1-2 weeks. Most consumers of GeoIP data do not update in real-time and instead rely on periodic database updates every 1-3 months.
You should expect a turn around time of 1-3 months for the majority of services to reflect your changes.
Currently our geofeed is confirmed to be consumed by:
- ipdata.co
- ipinfo.io
